The Ancient One

Alphyn’s, particularly Fire Alphyn’s, can ignite their body fur when threatened. They are highly volatile in this state and if the temperature rises enough it can become ionized to produce Plasma. A Plasma state is extremely brief, but can cause serious harm to the Alphyn, therefor making it seldom used unless death is imminent.
Whereas the Ice Alphyn can freeze it’s fur or evaporate it’s entire body to appear elsewhere, the process of freezing then evaporation is called Sublimation. A frozen state is usually only concentrated in a single area for defensive purpose, if the body is about to be shattered, they sublimate. Sublimation has to be used with care when reassembling; if the Alphyn isn’t ‘whole’ they cannot reform.

The creature here is a type of Alce, or wingless griffin.
This particular one is referred to by Alphyn kind as “The Ancient One”. Few but the old Gods even remember its birth, it existed before beginningless time. Its name is unknown, as is its spoken language or any defining traits.
All that is known is how the Alphyn’s describe it; it is a vicious, violent, evil creature, void of compassion or mercy. It is a devourer of souls and prolongs its unnatural life through consuming the life force of others. As Alphyn’s are the collectors and the transporters of souls to the afterlife, the creature hunts the Alphyn’s, killing them if it can. Mythical creature’s souls are of special interest, especially Unicorns. Dragons are its bane; Dragonkind has hunted this creature since their dawn into existence in hopes to eradicate its evil presence from the world.

Stronger in both physical and magical aspects, it is the killer of Alphyn’s.
